INFO & FAQS
What do we do?
Snowflake Magazine is a LGBTQIA+ collaboration and networking initiative spearheaded by a quarterly arts and literature magazine. Our goal is to showcase the incredible talent of the LGBTQIA+ community, provide a platform to boost the often overlooked work of smaller queer creators, and help connect artists and writers in the community we cultivate.
FAQs for Readers
Q: Is there potentially triggering content in the magazine and do you warn for it?
A: Yes and yes. We accept submissions that deal with a lot of serious and potentially triggering subjects but do our best to provide warnings for them. All issues from Anthology 1 onward have a content warnings page at the beginning of the magazine with page numbers for each topic. A preview of this is available on the store page for each issue. Older issues have a list of trigger warnings in the product information section of the store page.
Q: Is there a subscription?
A: Yes! We now offer a £3 monthly subscription, which will ship a print edition direct to your door at the end of every production cycle alongside any pre-ordered magazines. You will receive both the print and digital edition of the current and future issues, as well as a free copy of a random back issue every year you’re subscribed!
FAQs for Submitters
Q: How much does it cost to submit?
A: Submissions are completely free! Use the menu at the top of the page to go to the submissions form.
Q: What are the submission rules and requirements?
The full submission information and all the submission guidelines can be found here.

Q: I want to submit my work but it doesn’t fit your submission guidelines, what do I do?
A: If your poem/fiction piece or additional content is too long, please edit it down. This is a common reason we reject many submissions, your work must fit the submission criteria. If however you have a unique idea or wish to share something exclusively digital (such as video or audio) please drop us an email!
Q: The form doesn’t work!
A: Please check the following:
Are you within the submission window?
Have you filled in all the required fields, such as email, social media handles, title of piece, etc?
Are you uploading your submission in the right file type and size? Please carefully check the guidelines for the different types of submissions and email us if you require help.
Have you read and accepted the agreement and ticked the matching checkbox?
If the answer to all of these is yes, please drop us an email explaining your issue and we will try to resolve it as quick as we can.
Q: How long should I expect to wait until I hear back from you about my submission?
A: We begin sending out acceptance and rejection emails around the second week of a production month (February, May, August, November), but this may stretch into the third week depending on our team’s availability and volume of submissions.
Q: Can I still submit if I’m not in the UK? Can I submit something not in English?
A: Yes and Yes! We accept submissions from all over the world, and while our team are primarily English speakers, several members of our team are bilingual and can review non-English written submissions. Please just reach out to us via email if you'd like to check if we can review your work. We do however require that submissions include an English translation of your work that we can verify the accuracy of.
Q: Can I submit something if I don’t identify as LGBTQ+?
A: The answer is… sort of. While the magazine is designed to uplift and support smaller queer creatives, we have no intention of policing or investigating those who submit, or ‘checking the credentials’. We simply ask that if you are cisgender and heterosexual, please submit to a different publication.
Q: Can I submit my work elsewhere?
A: Yes, Snowflake Magazine does not require any kind of exclusivity. We want to help uplift queer creatives, so your work remains your own. However if you are submitting it to other magazines or competitions, please check their requirements for exclusivity clauses before submitting work to us.
Q: I’ve missed the deadline, can I still submit?
A: Unfortunately once the submission deadline has passed the form will automatically close while our team works on reviewing submissions and making the magazine. However there is a slight extension to the submission deadline for those who subscribe to our email updates.
Q: How do the acceptance rewards work?
A: If your creative work is accepted, you will be sent a coupon code along with your acceptance email. This coupon can be used in our online store to provide a contributor discount.
